The Doman Method™ reading program was created by my grandfather Glenn Doman and his book “How to Teach Your Baby to Read” in 1964. Since then over 5 million parents worldwide have used the information to teach their children to read, including my parents Douglas and Rosalind. As a family we started Doman Learning so parents could teach their children early reading and math before school age just like my parents did for me. We designed the courses and materials at Doman Learning to make it easy for modern parents to teach their children in the simplest and most effective way possible.

The Visual Word Form Area

The Doman Method reading program works because it uses the incredible visual word form area (VWFA) in the brain. The VWFA is a small powerhouse in the brain that looks at a word and recognizes it. Amazingly, it’s already organized and developed at birth. That’s why Doman Learning’s reading materials are big, bold and red - to make words easier to recognize for kids.

Why Big, Bold, and Red?

By using big, red and clear words at the right time Doman Learning taps into this natural readiness and turns the journey of reading into a fun experience. The words are impossible to miss for young kids. This isn’t just about looks, it’s about word learning and making sure those new skills stick with your little learners. To make them stick, we do the following.

Repetition, Repetition, Repetition

Now let’s talk about repetition. How many times must your child see a word to read it? About 15 times. We have decades of experience at Doman Learning, and we have found that by showing the same word 3 times a day for 5 days your child will learn to read. And how do we store the information in the child’s brain?

Why Themes are Key to Early Learning

Why do we group words in the Doman Method into themes like jobs, activities and foods? Well it’s not a random choice. The child’s brain organizes related information so it’s easier for them to remember the words. More importantly it makes it more fun for the child. Imagine the excitement in their eyes as they see words related to their favorite foods or activities – that’s the magic of categorization at work.

Making Early Learning Fun

Parents as you start your early learning journey with the Doman Method remember it’s not just about words on a page. It’s about nurturing the natural curiosity and readiness of your child’s mind. Enjoy the journey, celebrate the milestones and watch as your little one discovers the magic of reading and learning with Doman Learning.
