2024 in Review: Our Favorite Success Stories

Hey everyone! 2024 is wrapping up, and it has been an incredible year for Doman Learning. We’re so excited about our new picture-integrated reading program. Spencer, Morgan, and I have been working on this project for years, and we’re so proud of the incredible educational materials we’ve created. They turned out even better than we expected, and the cherry on top is that we were able to gift them to our incredible community.

We’ve also been hard at work creating better content for social media to provide parents everywhere with quality information for their kids. And Spencer and I have been having a great time making longer videos on education trends. If you haven’t seen them yet, check them out below!

Screen Time is Worse Than We Suspect

But the best part of every year is hearing from YOU. Parents are the reason we do this, and you give us the drive to keep helping families around the world with the Doman Method. This year has been our best so far—hearing from grandmothers who did the program with their kids decades ago, as well as new parents who are experiencing their kids reading for the first time or recognizing numbers before the age of two. So, to wrap up this awesome year, we’re going to highlight some of our favorite early learning success stories.

Editor’s note: By the way, it was really hard to pick which ones were our favorites because, no matter how big the win, parents and children bonding by learning together is always the real success story for us.

Kid Starts Reading at 2 and Can Count in 4 Languages!

Anas started reading books at 2 years old and always wants to learn more.
— Anas' Mom

Anas’ mother began teaching him at 3 months old. Her goal was to raise a bright child, so she took Doman Learning’s Reading Before School and Math Before School courses, as well as read Glenn Doman’s books. Anas’ progress was quick. Now, Anas is 4 years old and knows how to read and is very advanced at math for his age.

His mother told us, “At the age of nine months, Anas was able to point to animals and knew the sound of each animal and imitated it. By 13 months, he was counting numbers up to 50 in four languages (Arabic, French, English, Italian). He knew all the colors in the four languages and also knew all the flags of European countries. At 15 months, he recognized geometric shapes, days of the week, and months in French. By 17 months, he knew all the flags of Asian countries, and he read his first word on his own that he had never seen on a card, which was the word ‘panier’ on a yogurt container. By 19 months, he knew all the flags of the world’s countries. After that, he became very attached to numbers, and now he is good at arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication) and has memorized the multiplication table.”

“In the beginning, we did the program every day. The results were excellent. Anas started reading books at 2 years old and always wants to learn more,” Anas’ mother explained.

Baby Recognizes Words and Numbers for the First Time!

Finally, it’s happened! Our baby can read at the age 16 months.
— Koss (Amazing Dad)

Koss purchased the Premium Doman Bundle a year ago for his newborn daughter. A dedicated dad, he immediately began an incredible Doman reading, math, and encyclopedic knowledge program with his baby. Always asking insightful questions during Spencer Doman’s live Q&As, he shared his family’s first big win with us in July: “Our 13.5-month-old daughter finally said her first word. Can you guess what it was? No, it wasn’t ‘mama’ or ‘papa.’ It was ‘eight (8).’ Can you believe it? Her very first word was the numerical symbol for eight!”

Koss shared the incredible moment when his 13.5-month-old daughter said her first word: “eight.” After six months of doing the Glenn Doman math program and moving on to numbers, she began pointing out building numbers during walks, insisting he pronounce them.

One day, on a street she had never been to before, she surprised him by saying “eight” and correctly identifying the number on a building across the street. “She just remembered that I taught her ‘eight,’ and when she saw it on her own, she pronounced it,” Koss explained. A speech and math milestone happening at the same time - that’s a first for me!

Two months ago, Koss shared another incredible milestone in the Doman Parents Facebook Group. His 16-month-old daughter could read! On a noisy subway, he asked his daughter to find the words “Love Forever”, which was located on his wife’s purse. She turned and pointed to the purse, stunning both parents. To confirm, Koss tested her at the station, asking her to identify “ALMA” and “Kenari” on billboards, words she had never seen before, and she pointed to each one correctly. Koss proudly shared, “What can I say now? Lots of thanks to the entire Doman family!”

Congratulations to Koss and his family!

From Grandmother to Mom to Baby: Three Generations Teaching with the Doman Method

While many success stories are about the milestones kids achieve, this one is different. It’s about a mother learning to enjoy the program again, even when things got hard. She didn’t give up, found ways to make it work, and realized how much her baby was learning along the way. Here’s her story in her own words:

I can’t recommend Doman Learning highly enough for parents who want to help their little ones develop early math and reading skills—and, even more importantly, foster a lifelong love for learning. I first learned about these techniques through Dr. Glenn Doman’s books of How to teach math, reading, and multiplying a baby’s intelligence. My mother introduced me to his books because she taught me math and reading using the Doman Method when I was a baby 30 years ago in Japan. I began using them with my son when he was around 3 months old. As soon as he turned 4 months old, it became a struggle; my son wasn’t interested in focusing on the cards, and as he became more mobile, his attention shifted to exploring his surroundings.

When I found the Doman Learning community, it was such a relief! Not only did the bundle package come with pre-made materials, which made my preparation so much easier, but the Facebook forum where other parents and Doman Learning shared tips and advice were exactly what I needed. Reading past posts, I saw that many others had faced the same challenges, and I found great tips on keeping my son engaged. This community has been such a valuable support for me, especially since there is no one around me who knows about the program, it can be a lonely road. It’s wonderful to connect with others who are on the same journey and using the program too.

There are a few Glenn Doman’s words that I keep going back to when I feel discouraged because he is not into doing cards, or when a session didn’t go well. They helped me stay positive and encouraged. He writes, “It wasn’t that he stopped liking math, it was that his schedule became busier. He now had an entire household to explore. He has all those kitchen cabinets to open and close, all those plugs to investigate, every piece of fuzz on the carpet has to be picked up and eaten before the sun sets.” This helped me see that he isn’t running away from the sessions, and his curiosity and exploration were all part of his growth. He also said, “If we provide him with brief sessions, he will continue to gobble up new information at a mile a minute. It is only when we make him late to his next pressing appointment by taking more than a few seconds that he is forced to abandon ship and leave us sitting alone in the middle of the living room floor.” These words made me laugh, and brought so much clarity and reassurance.

Now, at 10 months, my son is beginning to focus and even enjoy sessions. I’m still learning what works best for him. I’m so glad I didn’t quit. I believe the program made a huge difference in my life, and I know it will pave the way for my son too. This program not only helps little ones build early math and reading skills but, more importantly, gifts them with the tools to keep learning new things and a true love for learning itself. If you encounter a rough time, don’t give up. Adjust the sessions to fit your baby’s needs, and take advantage of the Doman Learning community’s support. This program is truly worth it!
